Filming Diary- shoot 2 (23/12/13)

Dear Filming diary,

Emily and I decided to meet today to film for both of our music videos, seen as we are in each others. I chose to film my bath scene today. I asked Emily to bring a white shirt to wear during the bath scene. I created dramatic make-up with smokey eyes so that when underwater the colour would run and would look like she was crying. I made sure that the water temperature was warm enough to allow emily to stay in the bath without becoming cold.

I filmed from many angles and to add effect on one of my scenes i placed photographs of my childhood on the wall to then take of one at a time in different videos. Once the videos were placed next to each other and placed it made them look t=like they were just disappearing from the wall by magic. This effect looked really cool and i cannot wait to see this once i have edited it.

I added leaves into the water to keep the story of the abandoned home going allowing continuity within the music video. As Emily is wearing a shirt that just covers her bum it could link to Laura Mulvey's theory of the Male Gaze. This would make Emily seen as a sexual object to men but when watching existing examples of media texts and music videos by the most famous music artists the bath scene has become an ideology of female artists to perform in. I do not want emily to be seen as a sexual object however so have tried to go again Mulvey's theory by editing the colour of the shot so that you cannot see her underwear through the shirt once it becomes wet.

Great day filming again.

Wednesday 18 December 2013

I went out to take primary photos of my locations that I want to film at for my music video, but I came across an idea of filming in a different location to what I originally wanted. I wanted to film at the Humber bridge view point, but instead had an idea to film at boothferry bridge overlooking the ooze bridge.
I wanted to take a range of photos, which with my phone you can hold a button and it takes 88 photos in a row, so each is almost identicle instead whatever changes in the shot is captured in the photo. So when I chose the specific images I wanted from my selection I then put them together on Imovie and realised that it turned into a video.
You can tell when it moves more easily as it is loads of images put together, but it looks really effective and whacky, which is a stereotype of my audience. When I placed them together to make my short clip I went onto effects and decided to add a rough washed effect over the top of every image, and so it looks like an old video.
I really liked this idea and was happy that I decieded to do it when on location. I am going to use this in my music video and hopefully create more clips like this.

Filming diary- shoot 1 (13/12/13)

Dear filming diary,

seen as this is a diary of what i will be filming on each shoot, i have decided to write as if i was writing into a diary, so enjoy.

Today i filmed my Green screen room scenes. Firstly i filmed my make-up shoot with Emily and have placed it below. This took around 1 hour to prepare my artists hair and make-up along with setting the props needed for the shoot.

My props consisted of a black poofed skirt to act like a black cloud, a dark knitted jumper along with a body con denim dress as her costume, make-up with smokey eyes and hair pins to style her hair. photographs from my childhood were also needed, along with some string and tape to attach them and hang them from the lighting bar, as seen in the photographs.

We then spent an hour and half filming throughout our dinner, free period and coursework lesson. The shots seen of Emily are seen in the green screen room with hanging photographs around her which i also managed to place on her for scenes later in the music video. Todays shoot consisted of many shots within the video but mainly the opening scene.

Today was very successful, and i have made a good start to my filming

xoxo

Make-up Artist, Hair stylist and Director

Leah Haywood

I am my own make-up artist, hairstylist and director. I love styling hair and make-up and so being all three really appealed to me and i love a challenge so i thought why not.

Casting

Emily Hardcastle

Age: 18

Emily Hardcastle is playing my lead and only cast member in my music video. She is one of my fellow media peers and we decided to be in each others music videos to have the advantage of living so close together. As we both live a good half an hour journey away from college it is great in the terms of living close to be able to meet regularly to arrange rehearsals and arrange schedules and any other means of meeting. She is a great image to portray my genre of baroque pop and will work well as she understands the demands of the media course.

Audience Profile

Here I have created a Prezi to explore my target audience by showing you all of my research that i undertook, enabling me to understand my genre.

Conventions of Form

Here I created a Prezi on the conventions of form/ music video. This was to gain knowledge of what I should have in my music video to make it realistic to a real media text.

Prezi for Hair, Make-up and Costume design.

The video in the costume bubble on the Prezi will not play for some reason, however i have downloaded it onto youtube and have placed the link below for you to watch it. It is a screen recording of myself creating illustrations of my costumes in my music video.

Costume, hair and make-up

Here i have created 3 mood boards, 1 for each of the 3, costume, hair and make-up. This has helped me to look at artists in the same genre as my chosen musi video, which has allowed me to see general conventions and mise-en-scene within the genre of pop. By looking at different styles i have been able to get a feel and inspiration of what ideas i want to use for conventions within my music video.

Initial concepts

Here i have written 4 brief drafts of initial ideas that i would like for my narrative for my music video.

My Poll for my audience research

Here i set up a poll on my blog with questions for my fellow peers to answer for my audience research. Below is the email that i sent out to my peers asking them to answer my questions.

Focus Group Questions

These are the questions that i asked my focus groups. I used These particular questions to insure the answers That i received were of a wide range of audience to really find out what particular audience matched my genre.

2nd Focus group

Here i filmed another focus group to show a wider range of an audience and what other people feel about my genre and my artist.

Sunday 27 October 2013

Focus Group 1

Here I asked one of my peers to answer some questions about the genre of my music video and the style of music. This was to gain knowledge of my genre as well as the stereotyped audience that would like it.

History of Music Video

Here is a Prezi, about the History of Music Videos. By creating this Prezi and learning the video's and music type in most era's I was able to see the development of the Music Video. This allowed me to see what Conventions I should use within my Music video for the era I am creating it for. Toward the end on the timeline and into the modern ear, music videos have become a lot more edited and wear a lot more costumes, therefor mine should fit within this modern era and show new technologies and editing.

Genre Conventions

Here i have created a pezi about my chosen genre. By Creating this Prezi, it has allowed me to learn about my chosen Genre and access my mind to new thoughts about what Cinematography, Mise-en-scnene and Editing I should be using.
